David Mpala is a dedicated advocate for agricultural development and food security across the African continent. Born in Mafikeng, South Africa, his unique perspective is rooted in a childhood spent in rural Matabeleland, Zimbabwe, where he experienced first-hand the challenges and potential of subsistence agriculture. This early exposure ignited a lifelong passion for farming and sustainable land management.

His academic foundation was solidified at Leipzig University in Germany, where he earned a degree in Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture, providing him with a robust understanding of global agricultural practices. Returning to Africa, he has applied his expertise through extensive work in agricultural extension and the implementation of impactful development projects in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho.

David Mpala’s professional experience encompasses a wide range of critical areas, including resilient agriculture, irrigation program development, agricultural cluster development, capacity building, consultancy, project management, technology transfer, market access, agricultural funding, business planning, and farm management. This comprehensive skill set has enabled him to drive meaningful change within diverse agricultural landscapes. Driven by a profound belief in Africa’s agricultural potential, David Mpala is committed to dismantling the narrative of Africa as a “hungry continent.” He leverages his platform to highlight innovative solutions and empower communities to achieve food sovereignty. His unwavering dedication to agriculture is fuelled by a desire to see Africa harness its abundant resources and cultivate a sustainable and prosperous future.
