Maso Awards 2022 Winners

The 2nd Annual Maso Awards went down on the 26th of November and in addition to Giddes Chalamaba being honored with the lifetime achievement award, he was joined on stage by a slew of fellow winners. People experienced an amazing longest red carpet event for the first time in the city of Blantyre. Young artists Zonke and Kellie Devine Njuchi went home happy as they scoped best new artist awards to their name.
Augustine mukisi the CEO of Maso Awards in his opening speech expressed feelings and happiness for the successful event “I’m proud to announce that this is most diverse and progressive MasoAwards ever
and expect more as we go, looking out I see people from all walks of life,I’m really happy for all of you here”.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Gidesi Chalamanda popularly known as “Agide”,is a Malawian acoustic artist. Agide is one of Malawi’s legendary artists. His song “linny” a mashup with Dr Namadingo trended on Tiktok gaining over a million views and challenges across the world. On the 26th of November,2022 Maso Awards honored the legendary musician a “Lifetime achievement award” for his contribution towards the development of the music industry in Malawi.
1. BEST VIDEOGRAPHY OF THE YEAR
In the category of Best Videography of the year 2022, Malawi’s youthful video content craftsman Vincent Kamlanje popularly known as Viny Visual emerged the winner. Vinny has produced a number of music videos for the Malawi’s top artists. Some of the top notch musicians who trusted his services are Tay Grin and Dr. Patience Namadingo. The 15 years young video producer is currently in the United States of America (USA) for training in music video production. His trip to the US was bankrolled by Magic Fingers LL which is partly owned by Malawian singer Tionge Mhango.
2. BEST GOSPEL ARTIST OF THE YEAR
Suffix, real name Aubrey Ghambi, a Malawian rapper based in the city of Blantyre emerged the winner of Maso Awards 2022 in the category of Best Gospel artist of the year.Currently Suffix ranked No.17 on the top 20 list of Africa’s most influential Christian hiphop artists. In the course of his he has don notable collaborations with artists like Abel Chungu (Zambia), Ruyonga (Uganda), Limoblaze (Nigeria), Lilly Million (South Africa) and Malawi’s Faith Mussa. In 2015 Malawi music genius toured Zambia, joined by one of Malawi’s finest cinematographers named Sukez, and shared stage with celebrated artists including
Lotahouse’s Pompi, Tim (fka Thugga of Zone Fam), and Ephraim.
3. BEST MALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR
In the category of Best Male Artist of the year, Shafie S.Phiri, Professionally knownas DRIEMO, beat Africa finest musician Onesimus and other notable artists. Driemo is a malawian singer, songwriter and an actor, both born and raised in Nkhotakota. The young star is labelled as one of the most talented artists in malawi. Hissong”MOJO”also won Maso Awards Music Video of the year.
4. BEST FEMALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR
In the category of Best Female Artist of the year, Tuno emerged the winner.
5. BEST MALE UPCOMING ARTIST OF THE YEAR
Maso Awards 2022 in the category of Best Male Upcoming Artist of the year, Zonke Too Fresh
emerged the winner.Malawian dancehall musical artist from Blantyre, Zonke is a great musicianship, he plays with confidence and vocally he has a really good Tone.
6. BEST FEMALE UPCOMING ARTIST OF THE YEAR
In the category of Best Female Upcoming musician of the Year, Kellie Devine Njuchi emerged the winner. Kellie musical delivery is fantastic which really separates her and makes her stand out from her peers. She has a booming voice and bags of character in her tone.
7. BEST LIVE ACT OF THE YEAR
In the category of Best Live Act Limbani Kalilani, a Malawian hip hop artist better known by his stage name Tay GRIN emerged the winner. GRIN is a multiple award winning celebrity ; in 2014, he won a Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts (BEFFTA) award for Best International African Act. In 2016,
he won the BEFFTA Star Award in the music category. Grin also won the 2016 WatsUp TV Africa Music
Video Awards Best Traditional Video award, with the video Chipapapa featuring 2baba. He
has also won numerous local awards like the Nyasa Music awards and the Urban Music People (UMPAwards) in categories such as best live act, best video and best Male artist, respectively.
8. BEST DJ OF THE YEAR
A multiple award winning media personality Joy Nathu emerged as a winner in the Maso Awards 2022
DJ of the year category. Joy has been in Radio broadcasting since 2003 when he joined radio 2FM
and is the most recognized media personality in Malawi through his radio show “Made on Monday”. In the course of his career Joywon numerous awards;the 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016 UMP Awards for Best Radio DJ. He has also won the 2018 and 2017 Nyasa Music Awards for Best Radio DJ.
